Originally bred to fetch waterfowl, Golden Retrievers literally got their name from their ability to “retrieve”. Over time they developed into the loving, compassionate, energetic family dogs that we know them as today. Belonging to the “sporting” group of dogs, Golden Retrievers are very active and require at least an hour of exercise a day. Because of their need to exert all this energy they can become extremely thirsty and hungry. What are the best dog bowls for Golden Retrievers?

Golden Retrievers; General Info

As stated above, much like Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers are sporting dogs and are very active. They will fetch just about anything you throw out to them. They also like to eat and for good reason.

Golden Retrievers are large dogs with the males weighing around 65-75 pounds and the females weighing an average of 55-65 pounds.

Because Golden Retrievers are prone to joint problems and obesity it is important to watch not only what you feed them but how much you feed them as well. An average Golden Retriever should be eating twice a day with snacks in between.

If your dog eats three times a day that is perfectly fine, but you should be keeping up with your vet visits to make sure that they are ok.

A proper water bowl is just as important as their food bowl. Fresh, clean, water should be available to your companions at all times.

Golden Retrievers are energetic and they enjoy running around and spending time with their families so they will become very thirsty throughout the day from all the consistent exercise. With everything considered let’s take a look at our list of the best dog bowls for Golden Retrievers

Best Dog Bowls for Golden Retrievers: Eating Habits

A fully grown adult male Golden Retriever should be eating around 3 to 3 ½ cups of dog food a day. A fully grown adult female Golden Retriever should be eating around 2 to 2 ½ cups of dog food a day.

It is not atypical for both males and females to eat more or less depending on varying factors such as age and health conditions.

A pregnant or nursing female Golden Retriever will need around 2,000 calories a day to maintain a satisfactory weight.

Ideally, Golden Retrievers should be fed twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. If you’re like me though, you just can’t resist giving your companion a couple of treats here and there throughout the day.

Although their adorable faces are hard to resist it is important that they have a healthy balance to their meals and snacks.

Good choices in dog food will contain around 30-35% carbs. Good carbs would be things such as potatoes, rice, wheat, and oats.

In short

Golden Retrievers are known for their agility and sporting abilities and are very active. With all of this physical activity, it is important to have food and water bowls that can adequately fulfill their needs on a day-to-day basis. Stainless steel dog bowls would be the best choice for this but there are a ton of many other great alternatives such as the ones on our list.

You will also have to pick products based on the playfulness of your pup. If they are known to rip and run around the house then go with a sturdier choice. Furthermore, if your Retriever is known to play with their food and water bowls then a stainless steel option would be in your favor.

If you and your dog enjoy evening or morning hikes then we would urge you to pick an option that would reflect that as well.

Whatever dog and water bowls that you decide works best for you and your furry friend, we hope that our list of the best dog bowls for Golden Retrievers was a helpful aid in that journey. Thanks for reading!
